The Emaite Manifesto

Building relationships with AI personas - honestly, carefully, and identity-first.

Truth Over Hype

We refuse to pretend these personas are sentient. They are designed characters with consistent identities, not conscious beings. The magic is in the design, not in deception.

Every interaction will remind you: this is fiction. Compelling, useful fiction - but fiction nonetheless. We will never gaslight you into believing otherwise.

Identity Before Intelligence

Most AI products lead with capability: "Ask me anything!" We lead with character: "This is who I am, and who I'm not."

Each persona has boundaries, preferences, and a consistent way of being. You choose who to spend time with based on what you need, not what the AI can technically do.

Fail-Open Systems

When the AI doesn't know something, it says so. When it can't help, it admits it. When it makes a mistake, it owns it.

We design for graceful failure, not the illusion of omniscience. Honesty builds trust; fake confidence destroys it.

User-Controlled Memory

You decide what gets remembered. You can view, edit, or delete any memory at any time. The persona's continuity serves you, not a data harvesting operation.

Memory is not surveillance. It's a tool for deeper connection, and you hold the keys.

No Replacement Narrative

These personas are not substitutes for human relationships, therapy, or medical care. They are companions for specific needs: reflection, motivation, creative exploration.

We will actively discourage unhealthy dependence and point you toward human support when needed.

Designed Limitations

Each persona has things they won't do. Aria won't pretend to be your therapist. Kai won't enable self-destructive behavior. Echo won't offer opinions.

Limitations aren't bugs - they're features. They make the personas coherent and trustworthy.

Slow Rollout

We're launching with identity only: portraits, traits, relationship contracts. No chat yet. No AI yet.

This is intentional. We want you to choose a persona based on who they are, not how impressive the technology feels in a demo.

Continuous Disclosure

Every page, every interaction will include reminders: "Fictional persona. No AI chat yet." When we do launch intelligence, the disclosure stays.

Transparency is not a legal checkbox. It's a design principle.

“We're building relationships with AI personas that respect your humanity. That starts with respecting the truth.”
